Computer Information Security A.A.S. Degree (495)

This program of study meets all the General Education Requirements at Chesapeake College.

Award: Associate of Applied Science Degree

Program Mission: The Chesapeake College Information Security Degree provides students with an understanding of computer security and information assurance based on current industry standards. This program is built upon the National Security Telecommunications and Systems Security Instruction (NSTISSI) 4011 and provides the foundation for students to sit for the following industryrecognized certifications: Network+, Security+, CCNA (CISCO Certified Network Associate) and SCNP (Security Certified Network Professional).

Program Description: The Computer Information Security program is designed to prepare students to become Computer Information Security Specialists for a wide-range of government agencies or businesses. Topics cover threats, vulnerabilities, and preventions of computer crimes at the technical (hardware and software) level. Students should consult with the College’s Admissions Office or with the Computer Information Department faculty for advising.

Program Goals: The Computer Information Security Degree program will:

  • Facilitate proficiency in content knowledge and skills for the College’s general education competencies.
  • Provide students with knowledge, concepts and skills of computer security and information assurance.
  • Promote technical competency, professional knowledge and ethical responsibility.
  • Prepare students for successful careers in information security or for further study in the field.

Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successfulcompletion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Design Secure Network Operating Systems.
  • Evaluate management, maintenance, and security of networks using the concepts associated with datacommunications and networking.
  • Evaluate management and maintenance of operating systems and computer hardware.
  • Plan, design, configure, and troubleshoot a CISCO-based network.

  • CSI 258 - CISCO Networking IV  4 credits
  • NAT SCI - BIO/Natural Sciences (G.Ed.) 3-4 credits

Minimum Required Credits: 60


To be taken at Anne Arundel Community College:


CSI 157 - Networking I, CSI 158 - Networking II, CSI 257 - Networking III, and CSI 258 - Networking IV are to be taken at Anne Arundel Community College.  Students may be required to pay out-of-county tuition.  Students who have completed CISCO training elsewhere may also have their certification evaluated for credit toward degree completion.
