Program Mission: The Chesapeake College Landscape Management program is designed to prepare students for leadership positions in landscape management or for transfer into a four-year program in Landscape Management.
Program Description: The Landscape Management program provides students with knowledge and skills applicable to management positions in the horticulture and landscaping industries. The curriculum provides a foundation in general education, chemistry, mathematics, and plant science, thereby preparing students for careers in commercial property maintenance; residential and commercial landscape development; landscape design; environmental management and mitigation projects; museum, zoo, or arboretum displays; and park supervision. Students interested in transfer should become familiar with the requirements of the intended transfer institution and consult with a faculty advisor in selecting courses. All students should consult with an academic advisor in planning an appropriate program.
Program Goals: The Landscape Management program will:
- Facilitate proficiency in content knowledge and skills for the college’s general education competencies.
- Provide a broad education in plant science and business that challenges students to acquire appropriate competencies in content knowledge and application skills.
- Prepare students for entry into the workforce or for further study in the field.
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Identify, critique, analyze, design and execute landscape features.
- Sketch, design, and render landscape designs using appropriate software.
- Apply principles of chemistry, plant physiology, plant taxonomy, horticulture, business and economics to the design and execution of landscapes.
- Apply principles of economic, ecological, and cultural sustainability to the design and analysis of landscapes.
- Communicate effectively in written and oral forms with landscape architects, designers, landscapers, and the general public.
