Program Mission: The Chesapeake College Emergency Medical Technician program is a letter of recognition program that provides an opportunity for students to acquire the EMT knowledge and skills necessary to qualify for the national certification process and become a state certified EMT.
Program Description: This is a one semester, seven credit Letter of Recognition program designed to prepare students to become a nationally registered EMT and a Maryland certified Emergency Medical Technician. The curriculum includes didactic, lab and clinical training and covers all the theory and techniques of basic emergency medical care. Students should consult with an academic advisor in planning an appropriate program.
Program Goals: The Emergency Medical Technician Letter of Recognition program will:
- Prepare students for entry-level employment as a EMT
- Prepare students for further study in the EMS field.
Admissions Requirements:
- Selective admission due to limited class size.
- Complete the EMT application and admissions application
- Current CPR certification for healthcare providers that will remain validfor the entire program
- Be at least 18 years of age by the time the program is completed
- Completion of the College’s placement exams in English, reading, and mathematics.
- An acceptable score on the English and reading placement exams or completion of ENG093/ENG094 and MAT023 (if indicated) through the placement exams prior to beginning this program of study.
- Criminal Background check and drug screening must be passed prior to the clinical class.
- Pass physical exam by a primary care provider and verify all required vaccinations.
