The College offers four degree, six certificate, and two letter of recognition programs in computer studies curricula. Students are encouraged to select an area of interest and complete courses that will allow them to build their educational programs “in steps” in an area of interest, building expertise while working towards obtaining an A.A.S. degree.
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree recognizes curricular focus in a specific occupational area. This degree is intended primarily for immediate employment or occupational skills upgrading, but also provides opportunities for transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree.
The College’s Basic and Advanced Certificate options focus on a sequence of courses at the intermediate and advanced levels in the student’s chosen curriculum. Most certificate programs are designed to build upon skills and sequence into degree curricula. Certificate programs include at least 12 credits and typically take a minimum of a year to complete.
Letter of Recognition (LOR) programs include a specific sequence of courses that total no more than 11 credits, and can be completed in the shortest period of time.
Computer Information Security
The AAS degree in Computer Information Security prepares students for working with network security in private, public, and governmental arenas at the mid-administrative level.
Computer Information Systems
There are three options under the Computer Information Systems AAS Degree, each of which builds upon basic and advanced certificate programs. There are also Letter of Recognition options for two of the three.
The AAS degree in Interactive Media and Web Design is designed to prepare students for employment as Web page/multimedia presentation operators and designers in the business community.
The AAS degree in Microcomputer Applications prepares students to install, setup, use, and train others to use software for microcomputers in a business or technical environment.
The AAS degree in PC and Network Management is designed to prepare students for certification and employment as network managers, including installing, setting up, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and software for microcomputers.
The Advanced Certificate in Interactive Media and Web Design provides students with courses specializing in Web page design that will enable them to function successfully as Web page designers. Students will be exposed to current state-of-the-art software applications and gain an understanding of hypertext markup language programming. The Basic Certificate is designed to provide knowledge of basic skills for entry-level employment. The Letter of Recognition is designed to provide a credential for those students who are interested in a limited sequence of Web page design courses.
The Advanced Certificate in Microcomputer Applications provides the student with the opportunity to develop proficiency in software applications commonly used on microcomputers. Students will be exposed to all phases of microcomputer operations to enable them to function successfully as a “one-person” computing operation in a small business environment. The Basic Certificate is designed to provide knowledge of basic skills for entry-level employment. The Letter of Recognition is designed to lead to entry-level employment in the field of microcomputer applications
The Advanced Certificate in PC and Network Management provides the student with the opportunity to acquire familiarity with microcomputer hardware and software support to be able to function as a technical support specialist or with networking tobecome a network administrator. The Basic Certificate is designed to provide knowledge of basic skills for entry-level employment as a work group organizer or help desk technician. |
