SOC 171 - Introduction to Human Services and Social Work3 credits An examination of the roots of social welfare, social work and human services in the experience of man; a philosophical and historical orientation to human services and social work; roles and modes of intervention of social work relating to human needs and social issues; survey of human services in the social welfare framework. The social, legal, and ethical aspects of human services will be examined within the profession. [FALL] Three hours lecture per week. Prerequisite(s): Complete ENG 094+ as a prerequisite, or appropriate placement score. Prereq/Corequisite: Take MAT 023 as a pre or corequisite, or appropriate placement score. Note: All developmental courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better in order to progress to the next developmental level or into college-level courses.
