Program Mission: The Chesapeake College Microcomputer Applications Specialist Advanced Certificate provides students with intermediate concepts and skills in the installation and use of software for microcomputers in a business or technical environment. The advanced certificate is designed so that students may progress to the Microcomputer Applications Specialist Degree option.
Program Description: The Microcomputer Applications Advanced Certificate provides students with the opportunity to develop proficiency in software applications commonly used on microcomputers. Students will be exposed to all phases of microcomputer operations to enable them to function successfully as a “one-person” computing operation in a small business environment. Students should consult with the College’s Admissions Office or an academic advisor in planning an appropriate program.
Program Goals: The Microcomputer Applications Specialist Advanced Certificate program will:
- Promote technical competency, professional knowledge and ethical responsibility.
- Integrate knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to a PC applications support/training environment.
- Provide knowledge of applications packages and troubleshooting skills.
- Prepare students for employment in microcomputer application professions or for further study in the field.
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Implement microcomputer applications and systems software.
- Provide training in the use of office applications.
- Efficiently and effectively communicate technical ideas.

Students who complete ENG 100 as part of an Advanced Certificate program and then declare a degree major will also be required to complete ENG 101. Students are encouraged to speak with an advisor regarding their educational goals. Note(s):
