NUR 102 - Basic Pharmacology for Nursing1 credit Roles of the nurse within the healthcare delivery system are introduced with emphasis on the role of provider of care, manager of care, and a member of the profession in relation to pharmacology in nursing. The course provides an introduction to theoretical knowledge of pharmacological principles utilizing critical thinking within the nursing process and a caring approach. Content includes pharmacokinetics, pharmocodynamics, calculations and routes of administration. Classifications of drugs will be introduced using prototypes. Throughout the course professional responsibilities associated with drug therapy are discussed, including safety, communication, and management of medication administration. [FALL] Course Fee. One hour lecture per week. Prerequisite(s): BIO 202 , BIO 212 ; ENG 101 ; MAT Elective (MAT 113 , MAT 115 , or MAT 140 ); PSC 150 . Prereq/Corequisite PSC 250 . Corequisite NUR 111 .
